FLASH FICTION

November 7, 2022November 8, 2022

Foiled Getaway

Calamity Kate sprinted to the Appaloosa gelding and hopped into the saddle. Come on, Chief! They’re after us.

Chief took off, quickly gaining speed as she spurred.

Hair blowing in the wind, Kate stole a glance over her shoulder. Her captors were so close they could almost reach out and grab her.

She dug her heels into the horse’s sides, urging him faster. She leaned her thin frame low over his neck, making herself a smaller target.

Suddenly, the horse began to slow. No, Chief! Don’t fail me now!

“Come on, Katie,” Mom said. “That was my last quarter.”
