Wishful Thinking
If my pool was the ocean
and my back yard filled with sand,
I’d spend most every waking hour
just in sight of land.
I’d float and splash and frolic
like a kid on holiday.
I’d build a castle out of sand
and chase seagulls away!
If my pool was the ocean
I’d swim with dolphins in the dark.
I’d feed the pelicans popcorn
and make friends with the shark.
I could call up Jimmy Buffett
and have him bring some friends,
crank the blender, boil some crabs
and dance until night ends.
As the sun rose over the water
golds and pinks began to seep,
I’d walk along the water’s edge
collecting treasures from the deep.
If my pool was the ocean
and dunes filled my back yard,
I might become a hermit.
It wouldn’t be that hard.
I’d spend each day just lounging
in the sun with book in hand.
Nap, then read, then nap again.
Now wouldn’t that be grand!
I’d ask no one to visit.
No kinship would I brave.
The swooshing of the breaking waves
is the only sound I crave.

So enjoyed this!!
Now that’s a poem that makes me want to go to the beach. Oh wait! Our family is leaving Saturday for Seaside, FL. What a great poem to get me into the spirit of the beach! Thanks Kim!
