Gary and I are both readers, though it sometimes gets hard to find or make the time for it. In 2022, Gary and I plan to read and review a book each month. The thing that makes this different is that we will purchase the books from authors that we either know, have met at writing events, or are “friends of friends” who have either self-published or been traditionally published by small or regional presses.
The point is, rather than spend money supporting the Big Five publishers, or Big Four, or whatever it is by now, we will spend our few dollars supporting local writers. It may not make a big difference, but word of mouth does sell books. We know that reviews really do matter to both writers and to potential readers.
We already have a to-be-read stack, so we’ll be working those in as well as purchasing new books each month.
They say how you spend New Year’s Day is how you will spend a majority of the year, so I plan to crack open a new book today.
Great goals! Not only will you help other writers but you will learn a lot.
